Krypteria

Band Name: Krypteria
Status: Active
Genre: Symphonic-Metal
City: Aachen
Country: Germany
Label: ONFIRE / ROADRUNNER

KRYPTERIA is a German-Korean four piece, fronted by leadsinger Ji-In Cho.
Ji-In, who studied vocals and piano at the renowned Musikhochschule/Cologne, and her trio of band mates form one of Europe's hottest new live acts.

KRYPTERIA have a knack for dramatic punch-you-in-the-face songs with sizzling melodies all spiced up with mysterious atmospheres and classical elements such as their trademark Gregorian chants.

But who are KRYPTERIA ?

After teaming up at the end of 2004 the cosmopolitan foursome has left amazed audiences in its wake ever since: Not only because they deliver high class power hymns that effortlessly crossover to the melodic genre, but also because they stage a remarkably energetic and entertaining live performance that will rock your socks off.

Bewitching Ji-In, guitar/producer-ace Chris Siemons, and the thunderous grooves of human dynamo Frank Stumvoll on bass and showboating drummer deluxe S.C. Kuschnerus provide an epic feast for the ears, a killer show, plus infectious enthusiasm to boot all rolled into one.

Backed by a spectacular and celebrated promotional trip to Korea back in February 2006 KRYPTERIA are in especially hot demand in the Land of the Morning Calm, as documented by No.1 positions in the Hottracks international rock album charts, the video charts as well as the airplay charts.

During the second half of 2006 the band had been writing and recording their 2007 release "Bloodangel's Cry" with a vengeance, interrupted only by their Vietnamese concert debut, a set of tour dates with the legendary Deep Purple and their successful Wacken debut during the summer before enjoying a sold-out German tour alongside Subway to Sally and another blockbuster performance in front of 15.000 enthused Asian fans in Ho Chi Minh City.

Ready, willing, hungry and dangerous the eclectic foursome hit stages all over the world full-throttle again in 2007 and 2008 - to further introduce themselves and to present the explosive array of hot tracks off "Bloodangel's Cry".

And they will continue to do so with new songs fresh off their highly anticipated upcoming album MY FATAL KISS, which has been released August 28th, 2009.

This record features new material that elevates KRYPTERIA's sonic intensity and lyrical identity to a whole new level...needless to say that they can't wait to return to the stage and bring the hammer down again live just like they did last summer in front of 30.000 metal heads at Europe's biggest hard & heavy festival, the legendary Wacken Open Air.

That's when Ji-In will again paint sensually on the canvas of emotion, while six-stringer Chris, bassist Frank and drummer Kuschi will work their rears off to rock the living daylight out of the audience.

Tristania

Band Name: Tristania
Status: Active
Genre: Gothic Metal
City: Stavanger
Country: Norway
Label: Napalm Records, SPV

Tristania was formed at the end of 1996 by Morten Veland, Einar Moen and Kenneth Olsson from the remains of their previous band Uzi Suicide. Later, Anders H. Hidle and Vibeke Stene joined the band, along with bassist Rune Østerhus. In May 1997 their first EP, Tristania, was released. The same year Tristania released its first full length album, Widow's Weeds. A year later, following the Angina single, they recorded their second full length album, titled Beyond the Veil, which is thought by many fans to be not only the finest Tristania project but also the album which best represents the band's sound. The music is considered very atmospheric and full of deep melodic passion. Veland composed most of their works, wrote lyrics, played guitar and sang growling vocals. He was fired (according to his version of events) from the band after the release of Beyond the Veil due to what the remaining members refer to only as "musical and social differences".
In 2001 their third album, World of Glass was released. The absence of Veland was significant, and consequently this album was a departure from their previous sound. The growling vocals on this album were sung by Ronny Thorsen, a member of Trail of Tears, and the clean vocals were sung by Jan Kenneth Barkved and Østen Bergøy. Bergøy then joined the band as a permanent member, and so did Kjetil Ingebrethsen, who was in charge of singing death vocals.

The band's fourth album â€" Ashes (2005) â€" was the first of Tristania's albums on the SPV label after their contract with Napalm Records expired. The choirs are gone, as are the more challenging vocal parts reminiscent of World of Glass and Beyond the Veil. Hidle and Einar Moen add their vocals to certain tracks on the album. Two of the songs were actually written by the Tristania.com webmaster, Kjartan Hermansen ("Libre" and "Circus") while the song "The Wretched" is based on "Ascending: Descending" â€" a poem by Hermansen. Also on Ashes, the violins of Pete Johansen â€" which so often accompanied the previous Tristania albums â€" were replaced by the cello melodies of Hans Josef Groh. The album marked a lyrical and musical simplification of the band from the days of Morten Veland, more so than the first album without Veland, World of Glass.

The Ashes Tour in Europe (minus Einar Moen, who remained at home to work on more material for the band, but is still an active member) brought about another change for the band, the addition of a second guitarist â€" Svein Terje Solvang â€" who previously played with the band for touring purposes. His addition to the band as a permanent member in May 2005 marked the first time Tristania has had a two-guitarist team since Beyond the Veil.

In April 2006, Kjetil Ingebrethsen left Tristania to embark on a lower level musical career.

On February 27 2007, Vibeke Stene left the band to teach singing.

On October 19 2007, Italian singer Mariangela Demurtas (ex-Reel Fiction, Alight) was announced as the new female singer.

In May 2008, Svein Terje Solvang left the band.

On February 22 2009, Rune Østerhus left the band and Ole Vistnes is the new bassist

On September 1 2009, Gyri Losnegaard was announced as a permenant guitarist after playing live for Tristania since June 2009

Aesma Daeva

Aesma Daeva
Band Name: Aesma Daeva
Status: Active
Genre: Operatic Symphonic Metal
City: Saint Paul, Minnesota
Country: United States

Aesma Daeva formed out of the early collaboration of Nick Copernicus (production) and John Prassas (guitars, composition) in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, circa 1998. They worked together on a remix of an original work, "Darkness", for COP International compilation disc Diva-X-Machina II. As their project began taking shape, a second new track "Stay," caught the eye of Adrian Hates (Diary Of Dreams) at Accession records Germany, who published their first full length album: "Here Lies One Whose Name Is Written In Water”.
At this point, Aesma Daeva, the operatic, symphonic, metal band, took official shape. Rebecca Cords performed the operatic vocals, John Prassas composed and performed all guitar parts, and N Copernicus helped with production and sampling.

After the release of their first album, Rebecca Cords departed from the band and Melissa Ferlaak (along with two other female vocalists) began recording with Aesma Daeva for their second album, The Eros of Frigid Beauty, which was released in 2002 on Root of All Evil records. After the release of this album, demand for live music soon compelled John Prassas to find musicians capable of portraying the complex music on-stage. In January 2002, John Prassas asked Earl Root to play guitar, Craig Ohren to offer drum assistance and Melissa Ferlaak to sing for live performances.

Aesma Daeva played Metalfest in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, which established them as an original voice in the world of metal. Such popular metal magazines as Unrestrained!, Terrorizer, and Metal Maniacs deemed Aesma Daeva, "One of the Highlights of Metalfest 2002." Later, in August 2002, Aesma Daeva journeyed to Mexico for Festival Obscuro IV (presented by Dilemma Entertainment) to play along such acts as Tristania, Maldorar, and HIM.

In 2003, John decided it was time for the band to move to a new level. Writing began for a new album to be produced by Grammy award-winning producer Neil Kernon (Nevermore, Hall and Oates, Queensreich). Many setbacks and line up changes happened during this period. In October, 2005, Melissa Ferlaak announced she was leaving to join the Austrian band Visions of Atlantis. Her final show with Aesma Daeva was in December 2005 at the Star Central club in Minnesota. The concert was filmed for the internet DVD Last Rites.

After the Departure of Melissa Ferlaak, the search for a new vocalist began. Within a few months, Lori Lewis proved to be the best compliment to the band. With her knowledge of many different styles of music and her ability to sing different genres, Aesma Daeva has risen to a new level of professionalism and ability.

Aesma Daeva's new album, Dawn of the New Athens, was released in March 2007 followed in the fall by a full U.S. and Candian tour with Therion. This album marks a new era for Aesma Daeva in their quest for high quality, original material.

Amberian Dawn

Band Name: Amberian Dawn
Status: Active
Genre: Symphonic power metal
City:
Country: Finland
Label: www.suomenmusiikki.fi

Amberian Dawn is a Finnish metal band which combines bravely many different kinds of styles in their music with high skilled playing. During their existence, Amberian Dawn has honed their trademark sound with expert precision, making highly polished albums of symphonic metal that are sure to be heralded as future classics by fans of the genre.
Amberian Dawn is musically lead by keyboardist/guitarist Tuomas Seppälä, who exclusively composes all music for AD. Vocalist Heidi Parviainen adds the finishing touch to the songs with her lyrics.

The story of AD began in the summer 2006 when the founder members, Tuomas Seppälä and Tommi Kuri decided to put together a new band when their former band Virtuocity was disbanding. Tuomas and Tommi recruited Virtuocity drummer Heikki Saari (Norther, Force Majeure, Tuoni), keyboardist Tom Sagar, and guitarist Sampo Seppälä to join the new band. After a fairly short search they found the classical soprano Heidi Parviainen (Iconofear) who turned out to be a perfect match - not only can she sing, she can also write intriguing lyrics and performs her craft effortlessly both on the stage in the studio. Amberian Dawn was finally born! After a while Sampo Seppälä (guitar) decided to leave the band due to personal reasons. His replacement came in the shape of the powerful guitarist Kasperi Heikkinen (Iconofear, Merging Flare , Guardians of Mankind, Elenium) and the band grew even stronger. Heikki Saari moved soon to Norther and his replacement was another young crazy drummer Joonas Pykälä-Aho (Thaurorod& Lathspell).

This first lineup recorded the debut album “River of Tuoni” which was released in Europe and parts of Asia in 2008. River of Tuoni Tour took Amberian Dawn on the road with a Dutch symphonic metal band Epica and together they treated their European fans with 22 shows in 8 countries across Europe.

The year 2009 sees the release of AD's second masterpiece "The Clouds of Northland Thunder" and a change in the line-up. Emil Pohjalainen (Thaurorod) recently joined on second guitar with Tuomas moving to keyboards permanently for the live shows, thus replacing Tom Sagar. Tuomas will remain active on guitar for his writing and for future recordings. As one of the most technically advanced metal bands today, Amberian Dawn is fully armed and operational to continue their epic journey throughout the globe. First in line are the clubs (London, Helsinki) and festivals (Sweden Rock , Metal Female Voices) in Europe with more dates to follow. Stay tuned and follow the clouds.
