Pythia

Pythia
Band Name: Pythia
Status: Active
Genre: gothic metal
City: Londres
Country:

Brought together by a love of gothic literature and Metal PYTHIA are a group of classical and Metal inspired musicians who believe that music is a lifestyle that should be lived only by the brave and true of heart. Lead singer Emily Alice Ovenden is perhaps better know as a member of the No.1 selling classical act the Mediaeval Baebes and Classic FM favourite Celtic Legend. Drummer Marc Dyos and Guitarist Ross White are from one of UK’s foremost Thrash Metal projects ‘Descent’ and with Richard Holland on Keys, Tim Neale on Lead Guitar and Andrew Corfield on bass, PYTHIA are set to steal the Gothic Power Metal crown in 2008.
The name PYTHIA is taken from ancient Greece. The Pythia was the priestess at Apollo's oracle in Delphi who operated as a vehicle for Apollo's will. This is a fitting title as Ovenden’s lyrics explore the darker side of life, love and passion, dancing between this world and a world filled with gods, goblins and ghosts.

In a world consumed with religious conflict and political confusion, it is time for a new era is musical reverence, is it time to worship at the shrine of the Serpent Goddess

Eths

Eths
Band Name: Eths
Status: Active
Genre: Metal/Hardcore
City: Marseille
Country: France

The ancient Mediterranean harbour town of Marseille in the south of France is famous as a melting pot of cultures, tastes and people. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that Eths rose from the ashes of the remnants of even three local bands: Melting Point, Shockwave and X-Krutia on a fateful day in March 1999.
The core of this new band had originally been shaped in Melting Point, when singer extraordinaire Candice joined the outstanding guitarist-duo Staif and Greg already in the year 1997 in their quest for new and breathtaking ways to fuse metal and hardcore into a heavy amalgam of dark atmospheres and massive force. Do not be deceived by those melancholic brown eyes and the ethereal whispering and singing Candice offers with her sweet clear voice. Do not be fooled by that seeming innocence into believing that the dark haired French is just another angelic voice. You are in for a shock when that red mouth opens to rip deep growls and mean grunts from her throat of steel. It seems hard to believe and there is still some confusion even in the professional press, when writers are asking about the 'male singer'. The answer is always: Candice! Some might still find it not easy to accept, when listening to "Tératologie" as their second full-length is the first to be unleashed outside their native France.

"Tératologie" betrays those long years of experience, which Eths' core-members have shared in writing songs and playing together. Each song represents a strong unit in itself, but together they form the well fitting pieces of an amazing puzzle. Outbursts of energy and sheer force are highlighted as well as contrasted by moments of melancholic tranquillity. In their choice of style, the French have been eclectic right from the start, choosing elements as they fit best and not just for appearance sake. The opening track 'Bulimarexia' for example embodies the virtues of post-Korn modern metal at its best: Through a dense wall of clipped guitar-shredding breaks Candice's fiercely rasping voice, before she seems to mutate into some teenage girl staring with big wide eyes at the mayhem around her. The schizophrenia of her turning back into a venomous creature hissing dark whispers makes the skin crawl. 'NaOCL' is demonstrating another facet of Eths. The song takes off rather sweetly before clawing at the face with the combined effort of complex death metal influences nicely topped by some industrial elements. The singing remains frighteningly harsh, yet for some seconds Candice seems to lure the listener with a playful promise of erotic innocence only to be biting back again at the next moment. A weird electric-country part pops into existence out of nowhere, which exemplifies the bands ingenious talent for the unexpected and special little details. The at least two-sided approach in Candice's vocal expression, if one wants to dwell on the most obvious contrast between white-sweetness and black-growling, is echoed in 'Tératologie'. This title-track delivers a heavy pounding reminiscent of early thrash metal and hardcore, which both drew from the raw attitude and energy of punk. Its massive groove is enhanced by the nasty gurgling and harsh shrieks erupting from Candice's mouth, but seemingly, without any effort she suddenly reveals a little girl inside of her with a crystal clear voice for some melancholic seconds, before those two strands intertwine. Each song on the album tells its own dark and disturbed tale. Eths obviously know how to compose gripping material that will catch an audience on record as well as live as you would expect from a band that has already performed hundreds of concerts.

If some still need convincing that Eths and Candice can deliver on stage, what they perform in studio, they should just attend one of their many shows. The band is playing nearly every week from big venues in front of thousands to the tiniest of towns, but even there at least 500 enthusiastic followers will show up. In case somebody has never heard of Eths before, the reason is simple: Those are the people not living in France. So far, the group from Marseille has nearly exclusively concentrated on their home country. There was hardly time for them to do anything else, due to the overwhelming success Eths has had ever since their first six-track EP "Samantha" was released in the year 2002. From the start, the EP received praise reviews and as the band embarked on a tour with more than 200 concerts the audiences quickly grew until every night was sold out. Already in 2003, there was impressive media coverage from music magazine to a TV show. Following up this success was the debut-album "Sôma", which catapulted Eths onto the cover of all music press in France and beyond as well as outselling established metal-headliners like Children of Bodom or Cradle of Filth. As "Tératologie" sees the French climbing up to yet another peak, the time has come to reach for new dimensions. Eths are ready to take on the world: Be ready for the leading of the New Wave of French Metal coming to you now!

RavenLand

RavenLand
Band Name: RavenLand
Status: Active
Genre: Gothic / Metal / Rock
City: São Paulo
Country: Brazil

There is a legend that talks about the raven being the only bird to fly through the worlds of the living and of the dead. Every night the raven stands at the grave of those who died under mysterious and sad circumstances. RavenLand is inspired by this legend.
The RAVENLAND band was formed in winter of 1997 by Dewindson Wolfheart (vocal), in that time the band was completed by Andre Cardoso (Guitars), Clécio Christian (Bass) and Alexandre Brito (Drums). Since the beginning the musical proposal of the band was to combine some elements of metal, gothic music and the 80’s rock/pop.

The first recordings of the band were the demos “October of 1998” (1998) and “Live at Kalimar” (2000). The band also recorded a live show on video called “Noturna”. It was released in 1999.

In 2000 the band singned a contrat with the MOONSHADOW label for release your first album called "After the sun hides" with 10 songs, but after the band finish the record sessions in 2001 the label closed and so the record was..nt released. In that same time they have participated at some very important Brazilian festivals playing with such respected bands.

In 2002 the RAVENLAND was invited to take part in a tribute album for the Greek dark metal heroes Rotting Christ. So they recorded “Among Two Storms” from their A Dead Poem album. In fact, RAVENLAND’s version was considered by the Brazilian press the best track of the album that also included other respected and famous bands from Brazil.

After 2003 the band has forced to a pause, cause of out some member..s band. But in 2004 Dewindson knew Camilla Raven (Vocal/Violin), that in 2006 she influenced Dewindson to reactive the RAVENLAND together with her and a new line-up. Soon they knew Albanes (Guitar) and João Cruz (Bass) that together released an EP called “Black EP” in 2006. Bringing a new composition - “Velvet Dreams” and “Among Two Storms” (Rotting Christ cover song)â€" the EP was very well received by the local press. The concerts promoters were impressed as well and RAVENLAND started playing a lot in the local rock clubs and festivals.

They met the worldwide famous drummer Ricardo Confessori (Angra/Shaman/Korzus) who got very interested in the band’s music. Convinced about their talent, Ricardo offered himself to produce and play the drums for the first RAVENLAND studio album. And so in 2007/2008 released the EP "Back with three new songs from the new album entitled “...And a Crow Brings Me Back”, the RAVENLAND album was produced by Ricardo Confessori.

RavenLand is already considered the best Goth Metal act hailing from Brazil. Despite years of road, was considered band revelation 2008 by the major rock/metal site of the country Whiplash.net.

The new album "...And A Crow Brings Me Back" expected to be released till the end of the first semester of 2009. The album also brings a very special guest: Tommy Lindal (Ex-THEATRE OF TRAGEDY) on two songs choosed for him and yet Ricardo Confessori (ANGRA/SHAMAN) as drummer on all album songs. Produced too by Ricardo Confessori in a best of studios from Brasil and mastered in Germany by the great producer Waldemar Sorychta (LACUNA COIL, MOONSPELL, SENTENCED...), the album have 14 songs, more 1 bonus track, more a multimedia area content a video-clip and more than 200 photos of "End of Light" making of . A great production and a album that will represent the Brazilian Gothic Metal force.

Recently the RAVENLAND recorded a video-clip for "End of light" song that has a great visibility on Brazilian TV programs as STAY HEAVY, METALSPLASH and gets to enter for the programation of MTV Brazil.

The RAVENLAND now search a international label for release the album "...and a crow brings me back" in other cowntries, so the band signed with FREE MIND label for release the album just in Brazil.

Flowing Tears

Flowing Tears
Band Name: Flowing Tears
Status: Active
Genre: Gothic Metal
City: Saarland
Country: Germany

Founded in 1995 as FLOWING TEARS & WITHERED FLOWERS, the south Germany based  band soon signed a record deal with the italian label „Seven Art Music“, who released the band´s first two albums, „Swansongs“ (1996), and „Joy parade“ (1998). Constantly playing numerous liveshows and steadily gathering a growing number of dedicated die hard supporters, FLOWING TEARS were ready to take the band to a higher level, when they signed a record deal with Century Media records in 1999, soon followed by their label debut „Jade“, which was produced by Waldemar Sorychta (Tiamat, the Gathering, Samael, Moonspell). Followed by intense touring, first supporting MY DYING BRIDE and THE GATHERING, the playing a lenghty european tour supporting THERION, as well as a large number of festival appearances, Flowing tears made themselves heard all over europe, trademarking  their sound with emotional, intense female vocals by singer Stefanie Duchene, and atmospheric, yet heavy rocking and guitar driven songs. In 2002 „Serpentine“ was released, displaying the band had collected a lot of new impressions during their busy live performances, and thus focussed their songwriting while still finding enough place to experiment and exploring new ground for their vision of gothic metal. The release was followed by a european tour together with TIAMAT and MOONSPELL. Crowned by numerous festival appearances such as Summer breeze festival or Wave Gotik treffen, 2002 was a busy and successfull year for FLOWING TEARS. Due to the more and more busy schedule, singer Stefanie decided to leave to focus on her private life, and was replaced by Helen Vogt in spring 2003. Later that year the band and her new vocalist went to studio to record „Razorbliss“, once again with Waldemar Sorychta as the producer, and once again at famous Woodhouse Studios. The album turned out tob e FLOWING TEARS most heavy one to date, showing off the new found power and enthusiasm new singer Helen brought with her. „Razorbliss“ was released in 2004, and the band spent the rest oft hat year promoting the album playing several tours, such as a semi acoustic tour with THE GATHERING, a tour with AFTER FOREVER, as well as a lenghty european tour with SAMAEL in fall. A large number of festival appearances as well as own headlining shows led them not only all over europe, but also to some exotic places for a metal band, such as the Azores. Ending a more than busy and successfull year, the band decided to take a breath and take a break in 2005 to collect new inspiration. In 2007 they released a live album entitled „Invanity â€" live in Berlin“ which was recorded on their 2004 semi acoustic tour at Passionskirche Berlin. Released by the band´s new label, the UK based Ascendance Records, this album displays a different side of FLOWING TEARS, featuring the band´s favourite songs from their discography, all re-arranged and performed without heavy guitars and rythms, focussing on the emotional depth of the compositions. In 2008 FLOWNG TEARS recorded and released their latest studio album, Thy Kingdom Gone.
